Sonic Connections is not oriented around psychological crisis management (suicidal ideation, self-harm, etc.) or severe mental health issues that require professional intervention. We explicitly do not explore behavioral threat detection, risk management, high-level assessment for students of concern, or on-call mental health emergencies.
While there is an important need for initiatives like QPR Gatekeeper Training and Mental Health First Aid, we aim to support higher education professionals in their ability to navigate non-clinical mental health issues that are part of the normal range of human emotions and experiences (stress, mild anxiety, loneliness, etc.) and can often be navigated through self-care, peer support, and other similar means. We adopt this focus because recognizing mental wellness needs without over-pathologizing them is key to appropriate response and support.
